Holiday season...with a Russian twist!

The holiday season is approaching very fast, with its pros and cons. Who am I trying to fool? Where are the cons of staying at home, watching piles of dvds, spending time with your family and eating lots and lots of chocolate? I know, I know. But when it comes to Christmas and New Year's Eve parties, fashion nightmares are always at the door! I shiver at the thought of black, too-tight sequined dresses on every single woman, not to mention the overdone make-up (hi glittery eye-shadow!) and cheap heels with enormous plateaux.
I must confess... I'm not good at dressing myself for the holidays, either. I don't mind spending some money on clothes that I know I'll wear, but when it comes to dresses that I will wear twice a year I say to myself that it's not worth. Last year, in late December, I bought a nice Acne purple dress. I wore it on New Year's Eve, and then never again. Why? I found it very difficult to accessorize it! I always pair it with black garments, and the overall result looks a bit dull and depressive. Maybe I should go for some sparkle... but I'm really not that type of girl!
If you're like me, I swear: we have still chances to dress Christmass-y. Instead of focusing on swarowski and paillettes, go for a velvet dress: it's classy, season appropriate and, if it's red, burgundy or dark green, it screams winter holidays! I saw this Carven dress last week, and I couldn't stop gazing. It's merveilleux. It has a very nice cut, not boring at all, it's made of very soft velvet, the colour is perfect (not the red you are sick of after two days) and the small cut in the middle makes up fot the very tight collar. Since I rarely wear colours, I decided to opt for an unusual choice and paired it with these very fun heels, also by Carven. I love their retro vibe, that ribbon and the fact that, although they haven't a huge platform (thank god there is still someone out there who's not into platforms), they don't look dated at all.
To celebrate my love for Russia and to incorporate an ironic detail, I chose this little gem, a Matrioska clutch by Charlotte Olympia. Isn't it the cutest thing?
To top it off, Gaia Repossi earrings: they're baroque enough for the Russian vibe, and they will draw attention... but you won't sparkle!
Dark red lips, a little bit of golden eyeshadow or eye pencil, old Hollywood curles in your hair (or braids if you like Russian style... I suggest the braided bun, very cute) and ta-daan, the look is done!

Ta-dan! Una più che utopica wishlist natalizia. Mi devo essere fissata con il bordeaux, lo so... Del resto mi è sempre piaciuto (burgundy o non burgundy), l'ho sempre preferito al rosso esibizionista, soprattutto quando si tratta di capi veri e propri e non solo d'accessori; possiedo un paio di guanti in lana senza dita rossi e adoro indossarli abbinati a una sciarpa in tartan verde e rossa, un ensemble molto natalizio, ma anche renderli meno casual rendendoli parte di una tenuta "serale" e sostituendo la sciarpa tanto amata quanto calda con un maxifoulard nero in seta e velluto. La Proenza in quel colore è semplicemente splendida, così come le scarpe di Fendi che restano le mie preferite di quest'inverno: quante volte le ho rimirate nella vetrina così creativa e così inaccessibile di Fendi, a Venezia... Se le avessi le indosserei immediatamente ispirandomi alle proposte della maison: collant spesse a costine di un colore inusuale e la mia gonna di Carven che giace da mesi nell'armadio, inutilizzata. Il maglione di J. Crew è un classico invernale, caldo e confortevole, da indossare per una cioccolata, con un caldo montgomery e dei pantaloni di velluto a coste. Le scarpe di Carven sono una vera favola: le anelo dalla loro prima comparsa nelle collezioni del marchio, da quando insomma è stato riportato in auge; non le avevo mai viste in questo colore e me ne sono subito innamorata (mi succede sempre con qualsiasi cosa verdone e in camoscio, vedi Balenciaga). Per la sezione beauty J'adore di Dior (non mi entusiasma il packaging ma mi piace il profumo) e smalto NARS, mentre per quanto riguarda il bling bling stranamente ho scelto Tiffany: mi piacciono pochissimi gioielli loro, specialmente di queste linee un po' "commerciali", ma non resisto al simbolo dell'infinito. Diventerebbe subito la mia collana-feticcio...Beanie e guanti sono degli evergreen d'inverno, non ce bisogno che ve lo dica. Mettendo un attimo da parte il coté modaiolo, sulla mia utopica wishlist ci sono anche una marea di libri (narrativa, fotografia, moda- oh no, ci risiamo! Ma a Carine come si resiste...), delle cose "utili" (dizionario di russo in primis), candele profumate, tè, un abbonamento a teatro, un taglio di capelli, calze calzette e calzini, una lampada retrò, poster di film anni sessanta da appendere in camera... E poi una cosina da niente: un anellino di Gaia Repossi. Fattibile, vero? Al di là di tutto questo sproloquio consumistico, quello che vorrei davvero è un bel Natale. L'albero c'è, ci sono le canzoni di Frank Sinatra, le ghirlande natalizie, la famiglia e il pranzo (al ristorante) di Natale; però manca la voglia di festeggiare insieme. Non ripongo troppe speranze, ma è questo il mio desiderio più grande. Alla prossima per i buoni propositi!
