Lately.

A lot of time has passed since my last post and I feel like I own my blog an update. I know, blog, you probably imagine the 2017 Camilla as a confident young woman who has just started a promising career, while figuring her life out in her free time and practicing tai chi everyday. If so, you are completely wrong. Here I am: soon 25 year old, in my parents' flat, eating some chips  at 3 AM and feeling guilty because I should be sleeping in order to be super fresh (wait, is this French or English?) to study tomorrow. Study? Yes, study. I have postponed my graduation and this makes me feel quite miserable. And guilty, because "I haven't done my job". I've always known I was a bit of a procrastinator - it is definitely not "pure avantgarde". Nevertheless, I always saved myself at the last moment and never really lost control of my studies. Perhaps I did during my last Erasmus... In the first semester I did some exams, in the second I did the minimum - but still something. But I was supposed to start my thesis and I tried to collect the material and read, read, read dozens of books (read: "flipped through the pages"), but inspiration didn't come and I was feeling partly distracted by the novelties in my life, partly trapped in some kind of crucial moment of life where I should decide what to do with myself - and I felt I was completely failing at it.
So here I am, still a big exam to go and a thesis to finish. More motivation, but many uncertainties about managing to do everything in time. I've been feeling very guilty towards my parents, haven't updated my father about the university taxes to pay and, as a result, I am quite stressed on the matter... And feel afraid to ask my parents even for a cent, lol. So that's also a reason (together with the concerns about my father, which came with more guilt... Mon dieu, I start to realize I have a lot of guilty feelings inside me and this is not good) why I came back, even though everybody seemed to be surprised I did. Why so? I haven't finished uni, I am not earning money, I have finished my internship... I don't have concrete reasons to stay there, except for one, uhm, who is texting me right now from Beijing. I can't believe it's already one year and a half we have been speaking if not seeing everyday. I am happy about my relationship. I didn't even think I was a relationship person, some years ago. I was awful at them! I never had boyfriends when I was a teenager, while everybody else had. I've dated a guy that I stopped liking and then changed my mind, when it was too late (and probably it was just hesitation); then a guy stopped to like me, while I almost worshipped him and felt awful when he told me it was over; then Paolo, who basically doesn't speak to me anymore. It's a choice, but sometimes I wish we still had some kind of contact - just updating each other about our lives. Because we shared a lot, even if I realized (now even more, reading the old posts about him) that it couldn't work as it was. There were some wonderful moments and he is undoubtedly a great person, who I share so many things with, a generous, kind-hearted guy, clever and interesting, creative and sensitive... But I didn't treat him the right way for long, replying to his messages in a cold way all the time, acting annoyed... How could I do it? It was mean to him and masochistic to me. I am sorry and can understand why he wanted to cut the contacts. Still I keep great memories of our relationship, but they seem so far away... Almost another life. So this relationship kinda showed me that yes, I could have one, too, but I could also completely suck at it. Then there is the dark shade in a coat, my Georgian friend, as I call him. I think less often of him, but the connection I felt to this person is unforgettable. No matter how awkward he could sometimes be, no matter if my friend hated him - I wanted to see him again, I regretted so much meeting little while in Brno, not exposing myself enough (which was actually a wiser and more respectful thing to do, but I don't think action is the only thing to count - thoughts count a lot, too). I obsessed about him later on, thinking what would happen if we lived in the same country - perhaps nothing at all. Right now I would really like to be his friend, but for real. Not just exchanging messages every month or so. I really hope I will see him again; clearly everything has changed, but somehow I believe there is material for a friendship.
So Clément, yes. French guy I've randomly met in a bar when I was hanging out with my best friend in Prague. As with Gogi, he made an impression on me while being the weirdest, having nonsense/funny conversations and so on. He was awfully drunk. At the moment I didn't try to speak that much to him; I refused his invitation to have a drink in his flat, and brought my friend straight back home (well, it was 5 AM). But the following days I started to think that he was kinda cute, even if I didn't explain it to myself that much. Now I realize that I had a similar feeling to what I felt in Brno. You see somebody, don't consider this person, even don't like him that much. Then you observe him for the rest of the evening and you find him funny, clever and... charming. Kind. There is something that clicks, something that makes you think "That's an interesting person", and at the same time "That's a "good" person". So I found him on social networks and casually suggested seeing each other again for a coffee. Apparently, he was shocked by my message because "he thought he had no chance with me" (baaaaah), immediately told his friend who gave him some advice and... invited me to a party. On my side, I thought he wanted me just as a friend (maybe not even) since he turned my coffee invitation to a party one. Still I went, bringing some friends... And on return, he wasn't sure if I wanted to find some people to party with (I lately discovered that "partying" is a solid element of young french culture) and was using him as a "tool". A tool... Pfff. Soon came a scarf exhange, a light kiss, a nouvelle vague flick at the cinema, a ratatouille made by him at 11 PM, a make-out, lots of chats, a dinner in a vegetarian restaurant (points for him), oral sex... And so on. Am I in love? Yes. I realized these years that I easily get tired of people (meaning "potential partners"); it's unfair and totally selfish, but I start to find many things I don't like, eventually in their looks as well... Horrible. With him, I could never. I look at him n'importe quand, and think he is terribly handsome. Of course there are some things I am not enthusiastic about, one especially, but I have made up my mind about it and it's time to move on. We are not perfect together; lately we have been arguing (well, me) a bit, but everytime I soon realized it was pointless... I was overly dramatic (and in my PMS) and he made me understand it without neither offending me nor taking whatever I told him. When he (legitimately) thought I was unfair, he told me he didn't think he deserved this treatment. He didn't say I was crazy nor apologized for something he didn't do. This way of being balances me. Moreover, I am grateful for so many things he does for me out of generosity, never asking for something in return... I just want to be cute and helpful to him, it just comes naturally. He is curious about the world, kind with people (almost naive sometimes), has a sharp mind, a good soul, beautiful features and... I miss him. He is the first person I share so much intimacy with: sleeping together, brushing our teeth at the same time (sometimes!), hugging on the sofa, even just doing some creepy morbid things like exchanging chewing gum and laughing about it... I still want my privacy, and would never do thing like peeing with the door open. But living together changes everything. I remember being afraid that it wouldn't work, I thought he needed his friends and me, that I needed my space... In fact, it went super smoothly. It was a great experience, full of nice dinners, movies, some rules (like going to bed at decent times, agh), already made tea in the morning, already warm bed, a journey into liking hugs, always being enlaced, dancing awkardly to lambada, getting into new, good habits... It was delightful.

Bonds.

And now I think of all those people who were part of my days in the past. They were the ordinary, the usual faces which filled my time: at school when I was a teenager, at home and at university in Venice and the same here in Padua, in Brno... I'm not talking about the stream of people passing by, the ones who never had much in common with me- or maybe I just never realized it. I'm thinking about the persons who hold a special place in my memory, to whom I'm grateful and with which I share a great deal of memories: from afternoons at the library to shared meals, strolls around the city and deep conversations. They constituted my daily routines for specific periods, but now? Life goes on and everybody chooses his own path. Now that you have the chance to travel and to meet people from all over the world, you also have to give up on them more easily- not on the whole, but at least you have to get accustomed with the thought that your lives will collide for a limited amount of time. These are people I opened up to and felt close to... Nowadays I'm often told that I've changed, that I'm less shy and I talk to strangers more easily. That happened because of the choices I've made (living alone, going on Erasmus- they are not hard, suffered choices- they represented wonderful opportunities, of course- but they also scared me) and thanks to the amazing people I've met: Marika, Valentina, Michela, Francesca, Giulia, Gosia, Gogi, Majo, my classmates here in Padua, Elena particularly, Maria Grazia... Most of those people are actually friends, but I know I won't keep in touch forever with all of them and I know I'm bad at that; still, I feel connected to them and it's a bliss that I've met them, because they've all changed me and enriched me, and I look up on them because I think they're wonderful humans.

*These thoughts aroused in my mind after an evening spent with two of my former professors in high school: two great women who stand out for their courage, intelligence and grace. To one in particular I've always felt connected, out of admiration.

No.

Riscoprire, riscoprire. Come faccio a ricordarmi perchè stiamo insieme?

Non so, non so.

Poi a Edimburgo, quell'abbraccio...
I don't wanna be your friend, I just wanna be your lover- me l'ha detto lui...), facciamo qualcosa che ci accende o ci inebriamo semplicemente dei nostri sguardi, allora siamo felici insieme ed è qualcosa di assai migliore della felicità individuale.
Giurerei di no...

Q&A

1. What are you wearing?
I'm already in bed, so pajama pants and an old pink t-shirt from H&M.

2. Have you ever been in love?
Yes.

3. Have you even gone through a horrible breakup?
Quite.

4. How tall are you?
1.70.

5. How Much do you weigh?
53 Kg.

6. Do you have tattoos?
No.

7. Do you have piercings?
No, apart from an ear one.

8. What is the ideal couple to you?
I don't have a particular couple in mind, but I guess their relationship would be based on pure feelings, they'd know they can fully trust and rely on each other, but at the same time each would be independent and doing his own stuff, so the relationship doesn't sink in boredom and there are always new exciting things. But they'd also like to stay home and enjoy each other's company, lying on the sofa under a pile of woolly blankets, watching a Wes Anderson movie and holding hands. I like the idea of forming a new world, a sort of bubble than can serve as a shelter whenever you need to escape reality.

9. Your favourite TV show?
I'm not seeing many TV shows recently, I just can't stick to one. When I was younger I enjoyed Gilmore Girls (I still do, it's just difficult to catch reruns on TV). The dialogues and characters are just brilliant! Nowadays I watch Girls (which doesn't convince me 100%, but I find it funny and I grew some attachment to certain characters, like Adam), Downton Abbey (the setting, the costumes, Maggie Smith... Watching it is a pleasure that can be compared to eating macarons. They look so good, and they're slightly decadent...) and, when I have to cheer up, The Big Bang Theory- it makes me laugh so much.

10. Your favourite band?
Too difficult question. Also, it's been ages since I've been to a concert... Lately I've been considering music more like a soundtrack, then an interest itself. But I love music... My favorite band of all time is Arcade Fire. No matter what they say about their latest work, for me they're just pure genius, and they're performance are so amazing you just want to dance, shout and cry. Among my favorites there are also Joy Division, Zrní (Czech band, awesome sound),  Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes... And talking about singers, I love Bjork, Elliott Smith (his music is just unique, and it speaks to my soul), Neil Young (my father's heritage).

11. Something you're missing?
Serenity. Wandering around Istanbul with two among my best friends. My first year of university in Venice, when everything was full of possibilities. Two days ago, an evening with my boyfriend.

12. Your favourite song?
Probably "Autobus" by Zrní, "Dance me to the end of love" by Leonard Cohen or "No cars go" by Arcade Fire.

13. How old are you?
22.

14. What's your astrological sign?
Does it matter? :D

15. An essential quality for a boyfriend?
No drama kings, please.

16. Favourite Quote?

17. Favourite Actor?
 Valerio Mastandrea.

18. Favourite Colour?
Blue.

19. Do you listen to music at a low or high volume?
High.

I usually curl up in bed.

21. How long do you stay in the shower?
About 10 minutes.

22. How long does it take to get ready in the morning?
30 minutes if I don't have to wash my hair, but I end up in a hurry anyway. 1 hour would be ideal.

23. Did you ever get in a fight?
Never, although I witnessed some.

24. Something that seduces you in a man?
Self-assurance, when it seems they don't care about other people's opinions.

25. The most repelling thing in a man?
When they're completely self-absorbed.

26. Why do you have a blog?
I don't even remember when I started... It just felt natural. Now I rarely use it, but I find it a good therapy for the mind.

27. What are you afraid of?
Too much.

28. The last thing that made you cry?
Feeling lonely and unsafe.

29. The last time you said "I love you"?
Some weeks ago.

30. What does your blog name mean?
It's from an Irish song by The Pogues. I love it.

31. The latest book you read?
"Not that kind of girl" by Lena Dunham.

32. What are you currently reading?
"If on a winter night a traveller" by Italo Calvino.

33. The latest TV series you watched?
Nothing.

34. The last person you talked to?
My classmate who lives quite close to my place.

35. Who did you last text with?

37. Places you want to visit?
Russia and Czech Republic, since that's what I'm studying. I've been to Moscow, Prague, Brno and few other places, but I want to visit more. Also India... I want to go back to Ireland to visit it "as an adult". And I'm very attracted by Kazakhstan, Armenia and Georgia.

42. Your favourite candy flavour?
Coca-cola.

43. Do you play an instrument?
Nope.

44. Your favourite piece of jewellery?
A very peculiar necklace that belonged to my grandmother. Also, new pearl earrings from Dior, a gift.

Good one. Mhm. Too long ago.

46. The latest song you sang?
"Son of Sam" by Elliott Smith.

47. Your favourite catch phrase?
Don't have one.

48. Have you ever used it?
.

49. Your last evening out?
If it counts, saturday with the boyfriend, we went out to have an aperitif and then later to eat something. Otherwise last wednesday, went for a burger with some girls from my university, stopped for a few drinks in a very nice bar and then headed to a club we were testing for the very first time.

50. Who are you tagging?
Anyone who has some free time and wants to spend it in a nice, unproductive manner. :)

Quindi proviamo, proviamo a scrivere e a buttar fuori. Ricordi, Camilla? Devi volerti bene, e buttare fuori.
A piccoli passi...

POINTLESS RAMBLING NOT WORTH OF READING BUT (MAYBE?) HELPFUL FOR ME.

Indefinibile. Riassumendo... E' tutto così sospeso: l'università in primis. Quest'estate. I miei rapporti in generale... "Whatever happens, I'll never forget this".

E all'improvviso, travolta.

Potrò mostrargli me stessa in modo totalmente, assolutamente trasparente? Mi deluderà? Sarò io una delusione per lui? A tagdale.

We could run all night and dance upon the architecture

It feels like yesterday was Christmas Day, but two months have passed... I can't believe it. Three months since I've started feeling bad. Three months of worries and paranoia, which have consistently increased in the last weeks. If someone told me that I would have gone through all this, I wouldn't have believed him. I can't tell anymore how I felt before this... I lost my old feelings, feelings that were sometimes good and sometimes bad- I recently started investigating in my past, realizing that some events in my past have influenced my way of acting and reacting to events- and now I feel insecure, confused. Everyone tells me that I have to overcome this ("bisogna dargli il la") but it's not easy as it seems... But sometimes I forget everything, it lasts a little but it's sweet, today for example- I spent a nice afternoon with a friend and it felt like before. I wish I could just go back to my old normal life but there's something that paralyzes me, I'm trying to overcome my fear and it's slightly better now but the fear of falling is round the corner. I wish I could go to Venice, go to class, see my classmates, and everything I've always done but I don't feel strong. I suppose next week I will make an effort but it's going to be very very hard and I'm going to call my friends all the time, and I know it's ridicolous and no one out there is going to understand me, but I feel like I'm living another person's life and I don't know who I am anymore.. Yesterday I was reading an old book, a book I probably purchased six years ago, and I felt better- I felt the quietness that belonged to those times, in which the bad thoughts that now pervade my mind weren't present. It's like you think something once, and then you're trapped. I wish my mind wasn't so weak, I wish I was stronger, sometimes I wish I had someone next to me and I pity myself for never feeling to deserve something that other people have. It's so complicated.

Adesso potrei andare a cucinare qualcosa. Per me.

Buon 2013.

Veselé Vánoce!

A little late but... Merry Christmas to all! I wasn't feeling very festive this year, but still, I can't deny the charm of Christmas. Not the day itself, which is mostly spent filling our tummies till we explode and chatting with relatives we had forgotten to have. No, this is not what I call "Christmas magic". But the whole family reunited, the candy, spending quality time with people you love, being reminded of how lucky you are to be surrounded by such wonderful people... I don't understand the reason behind the hatred towards Christmas. A lot of people I know only complain about it and say it's just an excuse to be hypocrite and fake, but I don't agree- even though I don't attach to it a religious meaning, I think it's cool that, around the world, people take one day to gather and just be merry. Still, I can't help thinking about the people who can't do all this; recently, I happened to think about the matter several times. Isn't to help each other the only way to make our lives meaningful? Most of the times, happiness is about giving, helping, taking care. You are happy because you love, and love is definitely about giving, wether it's to a partner or to a relative or a friend. We are happy because we feel useful, powerful: we have a reason to work on ourselves- we want to donate the best of us to our loved ones. We want to protect them. A job can be a source of happiness, but it's rarely durable if it's just personal gratification... But how great is to realize that we accomplished something that will help other people? Wether we are talking about a new vaccine or a book translation, I think it's empowering.

Tips to master dressing up during the cold season

Featuring mostly Sessun F/W '12 collection.
Dressing in the winter can be confusing. As for me, sometimes I quickly get dress, go out, do things, catch a glimpse of myself in a window and... scream in horror! Well, okay, I sort of scream inside myself, but... I admit it happens. Most of the time, it's because I chose a total black outfit: black double-breasted coat, black tapered trousers, black oxfords, random bag, grey scarf. I may feel like a French existentialist, or a Rick Owens-Yoji Yamamoto minimalist, but instead I just feel and look... miserable!
I like my coat. It's black, double-breasted, above-the-knee lenght and it has a beautiful collar covered with some leather on the back. I feel good in it. Before buying this coat, I used to be for shorter ones, but let's face it: it's so annoying to have to adjust your outfit depending on the lenght of your coat. You put on a skirt, you like the look, put on your coat to go out and... Help! The coat is shorter than the skirt and the result is... weird. So yes, having an easy-to-match coat to throw over anything is a good start point. When you have this, you can buy any fancy coat you want... And wear them on special occasions, or when you feel like it. It's very difficult not to feel fed up with a patterned coat, if worn every day.

But as I said before, not even the perfect everyday coat alone can be the solution. I found that I feel good if I wear colours. Not necessarily bright colours (I own a red Longchamps bag that I use for uni, and that's it), but any colour: navy, burgundy, beige, jeans... I like the total black, but only if I include interesting fabrics and cuts. I like wearing my black silk sheer shirt with my black trapeze skirt, and I often finish it off with ribbed tights and patent leather shoes.

So, to spice things up, starting from these inspirational pictures I will try to include in my oufits:
  • Converse All Star. I used to wear them as a child/girl, but I just bought a navy pair and I'm excited! After years of serious shoes, they're a breath of fresh air, and perfect with cropped jeans. Just don't wear them when it's snowing...
  • Patterned pants. I still haven't found the perfect pair, but I love them! When you wear a coat for most part of the day, it's a great idea to focus on the legs. Match them with your shoes and, if you feel audacious, wear crazy printed socks.
  • Collars! I know there's a collar craze around, and I'm not totally into it- I don't like them wore on nude skin, and I loathe both the extremely embellished versions and the mormon ones... But a nice collar can really change a dull outfit. Choose a (slightly) studded one, a round one... Or just wear a nice shirt under a sweater or dress. A collar popping out of them adds an interesting touch to your outfit, istantly making it smarter or girlier, depending on its style.
  • Nice boots! How can you not have a nice pair of boots in winter? Choose a good pair, and keep it for several seasons. For me, the quintessential boots are brown, under the knee and made of leather, but... just find your pair and fall in love!
  • A nice woolen blazer. When a sweater looks too casual, a blazer will do. You won't need to change yourself head to toe or to wear a pencil skirt... You'll just throw your blazer over your shirt/blouse/pullover and you'll instanly feel smarter.
  • Shoes that can be worn when it's raining. I'm thinking of rubber Chelsea boots... Maybe with some (fake) fur inside? So cozy!
  • Corduroy pants. They're the epitome of winter. Worn with winter boots during the day and some ankle boots for going out, they're warm, cozy and just look good. Mustard ones go well with a blue jumper, whereas if you wear a burdundy pair (as seen on a lot of people this winter!), choose a light coloured pullover to brighten them up.
  • Grey ribbed tights. Burgundy tights. Mustard tights. Navy tights. Polka-dotted tights. Striped ones (vertical ones, please). Even optical ones if you like the Sixties... Play with colours and patterns and have fun while staying warm!

Holiday season...with a Russian twist!

The holiday season is approaching very fast, with its pros and cons. Who am I trying to fool? Where are the cons of staying at home, watching piles of dvds, spending time with your family and eating lots and lots of chocolate? I know, I know. But when it comes to Christmas and New Year's Eve parties, fashion nightmares are always at the door! I shiver at the thought of black, too-tight sequined dresses on every single woman, not to mention the overdone make-up (hi glittery eye-shadow!) and cheap heels with enormous plateaux.
I must confess... I'm not good at dressing myself for the holidays, either. I don't mind spending some money on clothes that I know I'll wear, but when it comes to dresses that I will wear twice a year I say to myself that it's not worth. Last year, in late December, I bought a nice Acne purple dress. I wore it on New Year's Eve, and then never again. Why? I found it very difficult to accessorize it! I always pair it with black garments, and the overall result looks a bit dull and depressive. Maybe I should go for some sparkle... but I'm really not that type of girl!
If you're like me, I swear: we have still chances to dress Christmass-y. Instead of focusing on swarowski and paillettes, go for a velvet dress: it's classy, season appropriate and, if it's red, burgundy or dark green, it screams winter holidays! I saw this Carven dress last week, and I couldn't stop gazing. It's merveilleux. It has a very nice cut, not boring at all, it's made of very soft velvet, the colour is perfect (not the red you are sick of after two days) and the small cut in the middle makes up fot the very tight collar. Since I rarely wear colours, I decided to opt for an unusual choice and paired it with these very fun heels, also by Carven. I love their retro vibe, that ribbon and the fact that, although they haven't a huge platform (thank god there is still someone out there who's not into platforms), they don't look dated at all.
To celebrate my love for Russia and to incorporate an ironic detail, I chose this little gem, a Matrioska clutch by Charlotte Olympia. Isn't it the cutest thing?
To top it off, Gaia Repossi earrings: they're baroque enough for the Russian vibe, and they will draw attention... but you won't sparkle!
Dark red lips, a little bit of golden eyeshadow or eye pencil, old Hollywood curles in your hair (or braids if you like Russian style... I suggest the braided bun, very cute) and ta-daan, the look is done!

Sharing some excitement about a fresh start.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1l4pDXbkic&feature=related

Almost back to the usual rut! Exams are approaching and I must say I'm pretty terrified, but more in a paralyzed way than in a stressful one. Also, my thoughts tend to be mainly about the start of a new academic year and my comeback to Venice, my lovely Venice. Moving has definitely been one of the best decisions of my life, not only because living on my own has given me much more freedom (not only in a concrete way- I also feel lighter, as if I was deprived of a heavy burden), but also because I've been given the privilege to explore and get to know a wonderful place which never ceases to amaze me. So, even though I can't stand the word "study" anymore, I am very excited by the start of the new year! There are some things I'm particularly looking forward to:

-Seeing the friends I made last year and this summer: unlikely last year, when I didn't know a single person, I already have some friends I can talk to and spend time with! Being a freshman is pretty exciting but also a bit scary; this year I'm definitely more confident and less in desperate need of friends, although I'm always happy to meet interesting, like-minded people! I miss my flatmates a lot and I can't wait to laugh again with them (I really think I've never laughed so much with anyone else... They're great, really.). I also miss my classmates, of whom I haven't heard for ages. Can't wait to share with them again interminable walks through Venice inbetween classes!

-Be back in a beautiful place with a great environment. Having the chance to go for a walk for me is amazing, since I don't have it where I usually live: whenever I leave my house on foot I have to bear with chaos, loads and loads of cars going very fast, no sidewalks, pollution and general squalor. When I'm in Venice, whenever I feel like walking I just put my shoes on and ask myself: "Which sestiere (venetian word for neighbourhood) I shall explore today?". I can just bring a book and sit on the edge of a canal... It's a dream.

-Having a routine. As all human beings, I hate having a routine when I have to stick to it but I do long for it when I'm free for too much time. I did have a routine to follow when I was in Moscow, but since I came back from Prague it's been a mess: waking up very late, feeling too lazy to do anything, hating the hot weather... And then realizing I've got exams to pass and I must study, study, study!

-Fall getting closer. I'm one of these people who never understood the charm of summer. I like being on vacation, I like nice weather but I loathe being all sticky and sweaty. I know we should embrace Mother Nature... but I can't deny I prefer lower temperatures, being able to drink tea and wearing some sweater or jacket. Summer is good when you're on vacation, but when you come home, unless you live in a Cohen-esque villa (O.C. reference!), it just sucks.

-New courses to attend! This year I have very interesting ones, such as Czech literature (twice the lessons as last year! I'm really happy, since at a certain point of last year I was so fed up with my other courses that this was the only one that kept me interested and awake. The professor is great, and the whole atmosphere is very stimulating- no people complaining or not caring about the subject, just a little bunch of interested students), Russian literature (we have six, and I repeat, six books to read before the start of the lessons, which will be in february. Help me! Otherwise, I'm pretty excited about eventually studying Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment, Dead Souls...) and Slavonic Philology: it sounds difficult and hard and it's probably going to be like this, but the professor seems great.

-New opportunities and new ways to spend my spare time! Last year I realized that, even though I have to study a lot, living in the same city of my university provides me a lot of spare time (also because I just have to walk 10-20 minutes to go to lessons- no public transport, baby!- and sometimes I can just wake up forty minutes before the lesson start. Ahh!), so this year I want to use it in a better way. I'd like to find a job, and I also want to exercise e bit- maybe go running, but I'll probably choose yoga or swimming. There is a great swimming pool in Venice and I know swimming it would be really good to my body and mind. Running in Venice, on the contrary, is a very peculiar experience... Also, this year I'd like to get involved in something: being a volunteer or join some associations. Going to the theatre is on my list, too: I've already checked the schedules and I really want to see Macbeth and The Nutcracker.

Ok, so my endless list is over! I haven't mentioned the film festival that takes place in Venice every year and that is going to start in some days: the Festival del Cinema di Venezia. I haven't mentioned it because it's very elitarian and I definitely won't experience it, but I'm still pretty excited about it. Who knows if I will run into some famous director along the calli!

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Giusto? Ho le stesse possibilità delle altre persone. Devo imparare ad amare me stessa.

PATTI LEE SMITH

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEmZBMQxEh0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNlAH5T5C7g&feature=related
Ho letto "Just Kids".

NO FUSS

So yesterday I went to the cinema and watched Woody Allen's new movie, "To Rome with Love" (also known as "Nero fiddled"). I liked it and laughed a lot, but what happened to strike me the most was Greta Gerwig. Not her character, which was ok but kind of plain, but her appereance. I had recently watched Damsel in distress trailer and I remember I had thought she was very pretty in a simple and unfussy way (not much make up, natural elegance, uniqueness etc), but in this movie she's amazing! I really didn't understand why Jesse Eisenberg felt the need to fall in love with Ellen Page's character, I mean she was very pretty, okay, but really pretentious and kind of... bitchy. In the movie Greta wears the best clothes ever, she's got my ideal summer wardrobe- unfortunately, I don't think that style would suit me. I'm definitely more like Ellen Page's character, who mostly wears breezy blouses and cigarette jeans with flats or espadrillas. Greta's style is even simpler: she wears mostly shirts, but in a very casual rather than dressy way (she chooses cotton and linen, she rolls up her sleeves...). She tucks them into pants, which are very casual, too: long, big and kind of floaty. Accessories she incorporates are basic: a very masculine belt, flat sandals and a leather across-the-body bag, perfect to be filled with books (she goes to university). Her colour palette is quite boyish, too: brown, black, white, khaki, light blue (for her shirts), some touches of red... That's exactly how I would like to dress this summer, without too many frills- I spend too much time making up, choosing whether wearing these or those earrings, and sometimes I just feel overdressed or just not at ease. I can't stand seeing all those dolled up girls wearing lace dresses, killer heels and big jewellery. I want a fresher approach to fashion... And Greta is a great starting point (sorry for the calembour)!
A scene from the beginning of the movie, where Jesse and Greta (I don't really remember their fictional names...) take out Ellen for a stroll around Rome.
 Ellen Page's character typical ouftit.

Greta Gerwig in another movie, wearing a summery ouftit which I love!
Greta Gerwig in "Damsels in distress".
Jesse falling in love with Ellen... Don't do it man!
 On set with Alec Baldwin.
The couple.
